Welcome to our GCSE Maths in Action day!
Join us for the ultimate maths enrichment day for KS4 students! Through five interactive and highly engaging sessions your students will deepen their understanding of key mathematical principles and discover the wonder of maths.
Our talented speakers from academia and industry will wow audiences with incredible insights into their work and inspire students to become the mathematicians of the future. A special session on examination success will ensure students are equipped with the tools they need to excel in their GCSE Maths exams.
There will be plenty of interactivity and audience participation throughout the day, with polls, quizzes and (of course) your chance to question the speakers – join us at GCSE Maths in Action and prepare to be amazed.

Practical session Alex Bellos, Author and broadcaster
Alex Bellos returns with a new session jam-packed with puzzles, demonstrations and mathematical conundrums. You will need a pen and paper for Alex’s presentation.
About Alex Bellos
Alex writes the infamous Monday maths puzzle for The Guardian. He is also the author of the popular maths bestsellers Alex’s Adventures in Numberland and Alex Through the Looking-Glass.
Lies, damned lies, and newspapers Emily Grossman, Broadcaster
Can we believe everything we read in the papers? In this highly interactive and amusing talk, Dr Emily Grossman takes a light-hearted look at the use and abuse of statistics in the media, illustrated with examples from her own experience as a TV science broadcaster.
About Dr Emily Grossman
Emily is a bestselling science author, internationally acclaimed public speaker and TV personality. She is best known for explaining science stuff on her fun YouTube videos and on TV shows such as Sky1’s Duck Quacks Don’t Echo (hosted by Lee Mack).
The Maths of Luck Alison Kiddle, Maths Communicator
It’s very rare to be struck by lightning or win a multi-million pound lottery jackpot, and yet we see news stories every day about nearly impossible occurrences. Join Alison to explore how probability theory can help us understand the risks of everyday life, and find out whether knowing the probabilities helped Alison when they appeared on the TV quiz show Who Wants to Be A Millionaire last year!

Alison is a mathematician and educator from the East of England. As well as travelling round the UK and abroad to talk about maths, Alison designs puzzles, writes about maths, and creates mathematical art and craft.
The (little) Big Maths Gameshow Kyle Evans, Maths communicator
The Big Maths Gameshow has toured the country throughout 2024 & 2025, bringing outrageous number facts and surprisingly subtle mathematics to audiences young and old. This special shortened version involves stacks of crowd participation to round off the day.

Kyle D Evans is an award-winning maths communicator and author who has taken inclusive, entertaining shows about mathematics to all corners of the UK, from the Royal Institution to the Edinburgh Fringe. His published books include ‘Maths Tricks to Blow Your Mind’ and ‘A Year in Numbers’.
Shapes and Smoke Rings Zoe Griffiths, Maths communicator
In this engaging talk Zoe will take us on a tour of some her favourite shapes and their curious properties. Touching on spherical geometry, topology and finishing with a display of smoke rings across the auditorium, this is shapes: but like you’ve never seen before.
About Zoe Griffiths
Zoe Griffiths is a mathematician who travels the UK and internationally giving talks and workshops in schools (through Think Maths), at science festivals and comedy nights. Zoe has talked about maths in places ranging from the Numberphile YouTube channel to BBC Radio 4. Before entering the world of maths communication, Zoe worked as a classroom maths teacher and is still a teacher at heart.
