For A level and IB students

This inspirational day of economics talks for KS5 students will feature industry leaders, academics and public servants. In five highly educational sessions these renowned commentators will delve into a diverse range of KS5 topics. A special session on examination success will equip students with the tools to succeed, and each student will receive a handy revision guide to take home.

The labour market Lindsay Judge, Research Director, Resolution Foundation

Lindsay will provide an insight into what it is like working at an economic think-tank in the heart of Westminster. As part of this she will discuss the current living standards crunch and explain how it is affecting different types of households across the UK.

About Lindsay Judge

Lindsay Judge is a Research Director at the Resolution Foundation. She oversees the organisation’s work on a range of issues including housing, labour market enforcement and lived experience.  Prior to joining the Resolution Foundation Lindsay worked for Child Poverty Action Group, the World Bank and Oxfam, developing policies to assist those on low incomes in the UK, transition and developing country economies.

Applying behavioural economics to policy and social problems Anna Bird, Principal Advisor, Behavioural Insights Team

Anna will introduce the Behavioural Insights Team and behavioural insights.  She will explore examples of behavioural economics in practice and how behavioural science can help governments, businesses, schools and students.

About Anna Bird

Anna oversees education projects at the Behavioural Insights Team – a social purpose company that began life in no. 10 and exists to apply behavioural economics to policy issues.

Financial Wizards Bobby Seagull, Teacher, Author and Broadcaster

Bobby will share his personal experience of the financial crisis of 2008 from the trading floors of Lehman Brothers and explore financial derivatives and some of the weapons of math destruction that caused the most chaotic recession in a lifetime.

Policies for a greener future Christian Spielmann, University of Bristol

Can government policy combat climate change? Christian will explore policy options governments can use to respond to the dangers of climate change. He will discuss evidence from various countries and particularly draw on examples from Germany’s energy transition.
