Artist

Rachel Whiteread is one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists and the first woman to win the Turner Prize, in 1993. Her sculptures and drawings, everyday settings, objects, and surfaces are transformed into ghostly replicas that are eerily familiar. One of her many notable works was Monument, made for the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, and in 2019 she was made a Dame of the British Empire for services to art.
