Philippa’s passion for engineering began at a young age with a love of motorsport and while studying for her degree, Philippa had gained invaluable work experience at Ilmor Engineering Ltd, working on a variety of projects within Formula One. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a 2.1 MEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in 2003, and joined QinetiQ as a Mechanical Design Engineer and progressed to become a Product Engineer.
In 2009 she became Product Manager for QinetiQ’s £150M Aerospace business where she needed a robust engineering knowledge, and a good commercial and financial understanding. In 2009 she gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from the University of Bath, and in 2010 gained her Chartered Engineer status.
Philippa actively encourages more women into the profession being involved with Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS).
