Ian Roulstone is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Surrey. Ian spent 15 years as a research scientist at the Met Office, and during this time he was involved with the development of the computer models used in weather and climate prediction. On returning to academia, Ian has maintained close links with the Met Office and he is currently a theme leader of the National Centre for Earth Observation. Last year Ian published his first popular science book “Invisible in the Storm: the role of mathematics in understanding weather” (co-authored by John Norbury (Oxford University) and published by Princeton University Press), and he has written several articles for The Huffington Post, Scientific American, CNN, ABC Radio National Australia, and Sky News.
